Reflection

Back in fourth grade I moved into the house I am in now. I moved in the middle of the school year so that was an eventful year for me. And as much as I didn’t want to move back then, I am kinda glad we did. Back in Burien we only knew a few people in the neighborhood, one of which was Melanie’s Grandparents. But now we know most of the people around us, and it feels like we are a bit more involved. Another bonus is also living right outside the Province, so holidays like Christmas it is always fun to walk/drive through and see all the lights. I’ve spent approximately the same amount of conscious time in each house over the course of my whole life, and after this year I am going to find multiple houses that I probably won’t spend nearly as much time in as these two. Hopefully that will make moving out of each house easier, but then again I don’t like moving at all so it will still be hard no matter what. In certain things I welcome change, in other things change is very hard to adapt to. Thankfully I know that I have conditioned myself throughout the years that no matter what changes around me, I know who I am and can stay that person throughout it all.  Just the same old black slacks sweatshirt wearing kid.

Thankful For...

I'm Thankful For......

Plasma, because without it our body wouldn't be able to function properly. (It also makes a good TV)

Air, because we also need it to survive properly.

Carpet, because it is much more comfortable to sleep/walk on than tile/hard wood/cement.

Dual Monitors, because it makes homework a lot easier.

My Parent's Friends, because this is their idea of a wedding gift.

British TV, because it is absolutely hilarious, even if you aren't in to the main theme of the show.

50 Lbs Bag of Dog Food for Around $10, because it allows us to feed.....

These Adorable Raccoons, which always amaze people when they come over.

YouTube, and the many forms of joy that it can provide.

Mere Christianity

"30. Pride is the worst of all sins."

"Pride goes before destruction, a haughty spirit before a fall" (Proverbs 16:18). "When pride comes, then comes disgrace, but with humility comes wisdom" (Proverbs 11:2). I agree with C.S. Lewis' statement that "it was through Pride that the devil became the devil: Pride leads to every other vice..." (122). When i was reading through Mere Christianity that statement got me thinking about how to find a sin that wasn't started from pride, yet after a while of thinking I couldn't find one. C.S. Lewis had managed to find the underlying sin that from it came all the other sins. this also got me thinking about the 7 deadly sins and what was on that list. After doing a bit of research i found that the list has been edited over the years and some sins were renamed and one was taken off, however there was always one sin that was regarded as the worst on these lists and was always on the list, and that was pride. At that point I realized that C.S. Lewis wasn't the first to pinpoint the problem at pride, but he was the first one to make me realize that the original problem was pride.

However there are different types of pride which begs the question, what pride is good pride and what pride is bad pride? After all there are times where parents say they are proud of their children accomplishing a hard task, is that bad pride? I believe that there are some cases like the one mentioned above were pride is a normal response and is actually the proper response. However the good majority of pride that the media shows today is the bad pride and shouldn't be shown for all to see, because then they could become jealous about what has been accomplished through that pride and then they try to become prideful people also. A part of being a part of this world is distinguishing which pride is good and healthy, and which pride is evil and detrimental, and then choosing the proper course of action to respond to which ever kind of pride you come across.
